Review by RYAN GRADY, Grade 6 - Sharks - Hosman

The author of this book is Walter Dean Myers and the title of the book is The Journal of Scott Pendleton Collins. This book is about a World War 2 soldier fighting for his life.  The book's genre is historical fiction.
This book took place on the battlefields in Normandy, France, which is in England.  The place does not look too bright because the shelling destroyed most of it.  The years and days go from May 25, 1944 to August 24, 1994.
I picked Scott Pendleton Collins.  He is very nice and kind. He does not want to die and is petrified when they go into battles. He has dark black hair. He is medium size and skinny. The reason he is so important to the book was because the book was on him and he is the character.  He also helps out other characters in the story.
My favorite part was when they were coming to Omaha Beach and the Germans were ready and waiting.  "We had stepped right into their trap, and they gunned down a lot of us.  We were not ready for the attack and had trouble fighting back.  A lot of us had died in the water and the water wasn't blue it was red, filled with blood."
I really liked this book.  It was a lot of fun to read.  I think one of the main reasons this book was so good was that it gave A LOT of details.  I think kids between the ages of 9 to 15 would really like this book.  This book also taught me a lot about being in a war and what World War 2 was like for all of the soldiers.
