A Wrinkle in Time by Madeleine L'Engle

Review by BRIAN McCONNELL, Oct. 10, 2003

The author of "A Wrinkle in Time" is Madeleine L'Engle.  The book genre is Fiction: Fantasy.  "A Wrinkle in Time" won a Newbury Medal Award.  The book is about a family who is trying to find their father who is missing.  They ask the government, who he is working for, where he is.  The government only tells them that he is "on a secret mission"

The story takes place mainly in Camazotz, a planet in another galaxy.  To get there they tesser and it only takes a few seconds.  The first time Meg, Charles, and Calvin tesser they find it difficult because they cannot breathe or move.  Camazotz is a weird planet because everyone is controlled by "It".  Everyone is the same, they do the same things, and they are perfect.  "It" is a huge brain and if you harm him everyone on Camazotz will be affected because he has their souls.

One of the main characters in the story is Meg.  She is the oldest of five children.  Meg is a girl about twelve years old and she wears glasses.  She is not good in school (she is in the lowest section in her grade).  Her teachers are surprised that she does not do well in school because both her parents are scientists.  Meg is important in the story because she is determined to save her father and she does not give up even when difficult tasks get in her way.  The other kids are not as brace as Meg is in trying to save their father.  Meg is a kind person.  She is the type of person that you may only meet one in your lifetime.

One part of the book that was exciting was when Meg helped Charles Wallace escape from "It".  She almost got taken by "It" but she refused to go.  Meg kept cheering for Charles Wallace and he over powered "It".  Meg and Charles Wallace then destroyed "It".  I wish I had as much courage as Meg does.

This book is awesome!  It had vivid detail, imagination, and suspense.  It's the type of book that you can not put down.  It keeps your attention and interest. The kind of audience that would most enjoy this book is people who have a wide range of imagination.
