Stop Pretending
by Sonya Stones |
Review by Meghan Pappas
The author of the book Stop Pretending
is Sonya Stones. This book is about a girl named Cookie, who has
difficulty dealing with the fact that her older sister has gone crazy.
She misses the older sister she used to know, and wishes she could get
better and come back home. This book is a nonfiction biography.
This story takes place mostly at the girl's
home and at the Psychiatric Ward where her sister is. Cookie describes
the place by saying that lunatics are everywhere. She doesn't like
going there at all.
One of the main characters is Cookie.
She has great difficulty dealing with what has happened to her sister.
She is too afraid to tell her friends about it, because she is afraid that
they will ditch her and not speak speak to her.
There is one exciting part in the book that
I enjoyed reading. There is a new boy named John. Cookie falls in
love with him. She actually takes John to meet her sister. After
the visit, John said , "I like her. I like your sister." I
liked that John said this because it shows that he doesn't care about how
messed-up her light might be, he still loves her for who she is.
I loved reading this book. I would recommend
it to many of my friends because I think it shows that no matter how bad
things may be going, it will always turn out all right. I think that
this lesson is very powerful and that it has a lot of meaning.
