Review by DAN REID, Grade 6 - Sharks
The book I chose is Sasquatch
by Roland Smith. The book is about a group of people that believe
in this cryptid and go to try to catch one on Mount Saint Helens in Washington.
A cryptid is an unknown or mysterious being. This book is Fiction.
The setting is 1997. The story takes
place in Dylan's house and on Mount Saint Helens in Washington.
Dylan is a scrawny 11-year-old. He has
brown hair and blue eyes. He is about five feet tall and weighs about
ninety pounds. Dylan is a brave boy who is not afraid to try to find
the cryptid even though it is an unknown, scary creature. He would
go out with one of the adults, Mr. Johnson, on the search party to find
the creature. He tried hard to find it because his Dad thought that
he saw one and he didn't want people to think that his Dad is crazy.
This shows that he is a caring boy who was trying to help his Dad.
Dylan is important to the story because he is the main character.
He is also important because he finds many interesting things and sees
a Sasquatch.
My favorite part of the story is when Dylan
finds Pandora's box which is a maze of tunnels or passageways where the
Sasquatch live. It is my favorite part because there are many underground
passageways where he gets lost and is very scared. At one point in
the book, Dylan states, "Panic set in and I began to shout for Buck as
I wandered through the tunnels. I no longer cared if the Sasquatch
heard me. Maybe one of them could show me how to get out of here."
He finally sees Buck and he is so happy that he runs over and hugs him.
Buck said that a Sasquatch heard Dylan screaming and the Sasquatch went
and told Buck through hand signs that he heard Dylan screaming. Then
Buck was able to find Dylan. This is the most exciting part of the
story.
I think it is a great book that is exciting
and very unusual. I thought that the book was easy to read because
it was so exciting, you wanted to keep reading to find out what happens
next. I think that people who like exciting and unusual things will
like this book.
