Salt in His Shoes
by Deloris Jordan and Roslyn M. Jordan |
Review by ARABYN REID
This book is about a little boy (Michael
Jordan), who had dreamed about a little taller so he could beat his friend
in basketball. It's a (non-fiction) biography. Jordan finds
out that hard work and determination is more important than height.
The biography began at the basketball court
playing with his brothers every Saturday. He went home to his kitchen,
talking to his mother about everyday business. She's always doing
the dishes. He went o church to pray to get taller and when he was
in his room he prayed everyday.
One of the main characters is Michael Jordan.
He is about twelve years of, had black hair, is skinny and black. He wears
a white t-shirt, red gym shorts, converse Chuck Taylor's All-stars and
long white socks. Sometimes he's sad and sometimes he's happy.
He is a hard worker with determination. The character is important
in the story because he's the little boy that almost gave up basketball
because he wouldn't get taller and didn't think he would become a superstar
in basketball.
The part that I love the most is at the end
of the book when Michael faces Mark one on one and Michael breaks away
to shoot a three pointer. "Michael shifts to his right, Mark followed,
but while he was still shifting, Michael spun to his left, stopped behind
March and shot."
I like the story a lot because basketball
is one of my favorite sports and it's about one of my favorite basketball
players. I'm related to Michael Jordan; he's my distant cousin through
marriage, not blood. That's why I like the story. I think mostly
boys who have dreams of following in Jordan's footsteps and becoming famous
will enjoy this book. It is about trying you hardest in anything you do.
