WHILE IN CLASS

  • Go to all classes
  • Read the assigned reading prior to class - be prepared
  • Never miss extra credit work
  • Practice taking tests
  • Turn in all homework on time, neatly done
  • Practice memory strategies
  • Get extra help from your teacher
  • Discuss subject material with family and/or friends
  • Always bring home the books you need
  • Underline or highlight important things
  • Notice if your notes are messy or organized - change your strategy if they are messy
  • Talk to your teachers
  • Get organized
  • Use your agenda book and bring it home
  • Ask for help from family members
  • If you're a procrastinator, procrastinate later
  • Tell yourself all deadlines are due a few days earlier that way you finish your work before it's due and you'll have time to review it
  • Ask for feedback from your teachers
  • Read what your teachers write on your papers/quizzes/tests, etc.
  • Participate in class


STUDYING OUTSIDE OF SCHOOL

  • Have an area for studying only
  • Make your study area free from distractions
  • Pick a comfortable area
  • Take breaks when you need to
  • Keep supplies you need on hand so you won't be distracted
  • Pick a quiet area
  • Try to have a computer available with Internet access if you need it
  • Work on one assignment at a time

  • Who influences you in a positive way?
  • Who do you look up to?
  • Who in your family is successful?
  • What are your future career plans?
  • Who in your family graduated from high school/college?
  • How is your self-esteem?
  • Who does your support system consist of?
  • How do you make decisions?
  • What do teachers like most about you?
  • What activities/clubs/hobbies do you participate in?
