Assignment: Social Studies Project: STATE DIORAMA
Date due: 6/3/02

As we study North America, more specifically the United States, you will be learning about states other than your own.  Research the state you have chosen by using your textbook, resources from the library, and various websites (you will be given a list of useful sites).  Using a box no larger than 18" long by 14" high, you are to create a diorama, or mini model, of your state.  Limited class and library time will be given for this project. You should plan on doing most of the research and planning at home.

Your project should include:
- the name of the state, its capital and the region of the  U.S. that is part of.
- a detailed map of your state, include such pertinent information as the shape, capital city, major cities, landforms, rivers, lakes, and any other points of interest.
- be sure to include such things at the state bird, the state tree, the state flower and nickname
- include any famous people or historical figures from your state
- include any agricultural products and other resources that come from your state
- you may add any other interesting facts that you learn as you research, maybe interview family members too

You may work alone with with a partner.
This project will be worth 100 points and by a major part of your 4th quarter grade.  Do well.  Have fun!
