 March 2003

Each student will create an African A, B, C Book. This book will consist of a cover page and 26 pages, one for each letter of the alphabet. The cover page must have your name, your class and a title. For each page of your book, you select a key word that relates to any African country and begins with that letter. For example, the Nile River could represent the letter "N". Draw and color a picture of your key word. You may include photographs or computer-generated pictures BUT you must also have a drawing on each page. The first letter is big and bold as in the Nile River. Write a few sentences as a caption for each page. Each page needs a border. Any paper, computer paper, construction paper, etc. is acceptable with the exception of lined paper. No lined paper. You may write or type captions. Each day in class, we will brainstorm possible words for the alphabet book. Each page must be 3 hole punched. Use ribbons or yarn to secure pages together.

A rubric will be used to grade for neatness, creativity, and understanding of Africa.

This project is the HOMEWORK until the due date. On many days, I will be checking the progress of the project by asking children to show me some completed pages. The project is assigned Mon., March 3 and is due on Mon., March 31. Grade will be lowered for each day that the project is passed in beyond the due date.

Sample books are available in the classroom.
